How to Volunteer
Volunteering with Silver Horse Ranch Therapeutic Riding is a hands-on, meaningful way to be part of life-changing moments. Lessons typically last 60 - 75 minutes and involve active participation as a horse leader or sidewalker, working directly with both the horse and rider under the guidance of a certified instructor. No prior horse experience is necessary to volunteer, many roles are perfect for beginners, and all volunteers receive instruction and support. Volunteers walk alongside the horse, support the rider, and help create a safe, encouraging environment. Many volunteers find deep joy in building connections with riders, celebrating small victories, and experiencing the unique bond between humans and horses. The smiles, progress, and confidence gained during each lesson make volunteering both rewarding and unforgettable.

What Volunteering Looks Like
During each lesson, volunteers are part of a supportive team focused on safety, encouragement, and rider success. Responsibilities may include:
- Arriving 10 minutes early to greet the rider and prepare for the lesson.
- Assisting as a sidewalker, providing physical support, encouragement, and focus to the rider.
- Assisting as a horse leader for those with horse experience or after additional training.
- Walking for up to 60 minutes and providing light physical assistance as needed
Volunteer Requirements & Training:
- Volunteers must be at least 14 years old (or 13 with prior horse experience)
- Must be able to walk for 60 minutes and lift up to 20 pounds
- All volunteers are required to attend a training/orientation before participating in lessons
